Can Form 15G/15H prevent TDS on PF withdrawal?
Yes, if the member’s total income (including PF withdrawal) is below the basic exemption limit and a valid Form 15G/15H is submitted, TDS may not be deducted, though the amount can still be taxable if conditions are not fully met.
What are the most common EPF claim rejection reasons?
Frequent rejection reasons include KYC mismatch (name, DOB, Aadhaar, PAN), incorrect or unverified bank account, wrong claim form type, exit date not updated by the employer, and issues in service/EPS details or multiple UANs not merged.
How can I fix KYC or profile-mismatch issues causing rejection?
Update Aadhaar, PAN, and bank details in the Member portal under KYC and ensure employer approval where required, then correct basic details via online correction or joint declaration and reapply the claim.
What should I do if my claim is rejected due to bank account problems?
Add a fresh bank account in KYC with a cancelled cheque or passbook, wait until the status shows “Verified”, and then file the claim again using that account.
Why is my EPF claim rejected even though I am still marked “in service”?
EPF final settlement and certain claim types are allowed only after the employer updates the exit date and reason in the portal, so claims are rejected if the member’s status is still “in service”. The employer must update exit details before refiling the claim.
What are typical EPS (pension) transfer or 10C issues?
Problems arise when service history is incomplete, exit dates are missing, multiple PF accounts are not linked, total EPS service is less than 6 months or more than 10 years, or EPS records do not match the PF account.
How do I solve the EPS transfer and Annexure K problems?
Ask the previous employer to correctly update exit details and approve the transfer, then verify service history using Annexure K or passbook; if there are discrepancies, raise a grievance with supporting documents.
What if my employer does not verify KYC or PF transfer?
Follow up formally by email and reminders; if the employer is closed or non-cooperative, use Aadhaar-based online claim/transfer wherever available and then escalate to EPFO through the grievance portal with offer letters, payslips, and bank proof.
How do I log in to the EPFO Member / UAN portal?
Visit the EPFO Unified Member portal, enter your UAN and password, submit, and authenticate via OTP on your mobile number registered with UAN.
How can I check my EPF balance online?
You can log in to the EPFO passbook portal using your UAN and password and select the relevant member ID to view/download the passbook, which shows contributions and balance.
How do I check my EPF balance by SMS or missed call?
From your mobile registered with UAN, send an SMS in the format “EPFOHO UAN ENG” (or another language code) to the designated EPFO number, or give a missed call to EPFO’s official balance number to receive an SMS with your balance, subject to current EPFO facilities.
How do I reset or change my EPFO password?
On the Member portal login page, click “Forgot Password”, enter UAN, verify OTP on your registered mobile, and set a new password; once logged in, you can also change the password from the “Account/Change Password” section.
What is e‑nomination in EPFO?
E‑nomination is the online facility for members to declare their nominees/family members who will receive EPF and EPS benefits in case of the member’s death.
Why is e‑nomination important?
Valid e‑nomination helps dependents get faster and smoother settlement without disputes, and some EPFO services and online claims work more smoothly when e‑nomination is completed and updated.
Is PAN compulsory for PF withdrawal?
PF withdrawal can be processed even without PAN, but in taxable cases, the TDS rate is much higher (maximum marginal rate) if PAN is not updated in KYC. Updating PAN ensures TDS at 10% and proper credit in Form 26AS.
Is there a fixed tax‑free limit amount for PF withdrawal?
There is no fixed rupee “tax‑free limit”; tax exemption depends mainly on completing 5 years of continuous service or specified conditions like death or permanent disability, not on the amount withdrawn.
What happens if I withdraw PF before 5 years and the amount is below ₹50,000?
If the service is under 5 years and the withdrawal is up to ₹50,000, no TDS is deducted, but the withdrawal can still be taxable as per your income slab and earlier deductions claimed.
